Get Ready for Mardi Gras -
After a much lamented absence from the Zion calendar, the celebration of Mardi Gras is returning on Saturday evening February 22, 2014 in the Family Life Center. It starts at 6:00 p.m. and will run until 10:00 p.m. (or until the King and Queen of the Mardi Gras tell us to all go home). The Hall will be decked out in a festive New Orleans style that'll make you think you're on Bourbon or Canal Streets in the Big Easy. Great food and fun awaits! The Master Chefs of Zion are preparing an oyster roast, a fine gumbo, shrimp and grits, red beans and rice, vegetable and bread pudding. For kids under 10, there will be chicken and french fries. Also on hand will be Jed, a bluegrass, rock'n'roll group led by David Prosser. A balloon artist, as well as face painting, and fun games will be going on throughout the evening. A professional auctioneer will be on hand to conduct an auction and there will be a raffle of this and that from around the Zion commuinty. The Mardi Gras will be a fundraiser for the Zion Messengers, a support group of Zion folks, a group of some members taking a mission trip to Honduras this summer and for the South Carolina Lutheran Synod's "Growing in God's Mission" appeal. Tickets are $20 per person or $50 for a family. Kids under 10 eat free. Tickets are available at the Church Office (803) 356-2297 or you can call Monsieur Tim Driggers at his temporary ticket office at Brennan's Restaurant on Royal Street (803) 359-5174.
